Why the people working with the computer and why need network connection? The computer would help them to doing their jobs and networking computer make the easy for share any resource that they need for their activity, or in other work to help and make a stand alone computer can access another and share with another. The internet is a large computer network on the world, million computer network connect on internet for doing they need like searching information, web browsing, studying and internet marketing. When your computers connected through network connect in this mean internet, then your computer will be able to access any information.

In the small and middle scale like LAN and WAN you computer can connect trough network connection for the same network and access that resource who share on the network for example you can connect your computer at home to the same network resources that locate on different location like you campus or school, now with internet its probably to be done even you not physically located on campus or school.

For long distance network connection we can use VSAT or satellite technology, microwave and wireless technology. So if your network infrastructure has already you can access into the internal network from the internet with many type of connection to connect on your networking.

How to Network Setup

This article is a tips or guides for beginner who want learning about networking computer and try to network setup, before we start there is some requirement that must be met if you want make and setup the network. So for getting connection for your computer to running on the networking we need some information.

The first important things network setup needed the operating system to make the connection possible, Windows OS, Open source OS (Linux), Unix, Mac and other operating system has support for networking implementation, just chose one of them for your operating system or you can integrated all operating system into one network computers system. For your information if you want manage the network with multi operating system you must have more capable for the networking knowledge.

Second we need physical device to make network setup so your device can connected, in the case we need Ethernet adapter or network interface card and cable for wire connection or wireless if we no need cable. We also need switch for centralized data, traffic broadcast and layer cable connection, then you must have the router for connect two or more segment network and open the access from internet into your internal networking and vice of versa.

Third the network setup needs to give IP address at Ethernet adapter, subnet mask and default gateway, so every computer must give different ip address on same segment network, if we give the same ip address on the same local area network it will cause the ip conflict and make you network down.

Network setup mean is process the configuration and installation network connection, from operating system and give the IP address computer. So if the entire step above met than you computer ready to use as networking computer.

The LAN network or also know as Local area network is similar phrase, its mean simple computer network that usually use on small office or at your home. To setup LAN we must connected many device or peripheral into one connection so we can manage and share everything on entire network. We need cable UTP cat 5 for wire connection, switch for centralized traffic, and network adapter for personal computer and also RJ 45 for connector.

There are some many topology concepts for computer networking there is star topology, bus, ring and mesh star topology, nowadays for LAN network the people generally use star or mesh star topology because if we compare from other network topology both of star and mesh star is very easy on setup. Star topology means all of the connection on the network must route the switch as broadcast domain.

With star topology the computer on the LAN network the people can share resources like file and sharing video and printer sharing, this network simple easy for setup and low cost of maintenance. For make you star topology network connect to the internet you need ip address as default gateway you can use ADSL technology or buy an IP public from internet service provider.

Windows XP is an operating systems produced by Microsoft corp. for use on personal computers, this operating system also can be use for home user and business desktop, most of notebook or laptop, and personal desktop computer using Windows XP as operating system. Windows XP has the first of consumer-oriented operating system produced by Microsoft to be built on the Windows NT kernel and architecture. Windows XP was first released on 25 October 2001 with home edition and professional edition.

Windows XP able to work on network environment, as client on client server network or as independent self on peer to peer or workgroup network. XP network is simple networking with minimalist security. We just need unmanaged switch, network interface card and cable UTP cat 5 for physical layer. If you have two or more computer you can do it at your home. For simple network and minimum budget you can enjoy sharing file and sharing printer on Windows XP Network just setup the windows XP network and you can work with simple network at your home.
